Description
5th & 6th September 2026
Level: Intermediate
Join silversmith Jill Leventon for a two-day corrugation and enamelling workshop exploring sculptural metalworking and colourful vitreous enamel. Learn how corrugation transforms sheet metal into lightweight, textured forms before bringing them to life with vibrant enamel.
Corrugation, sometimes known as micro-folding, is a fascinating technique that creates delicate ridges and folds in sheet metal. As well as producing beautiful surface textures, corrugation also strengthens the metal, allowing you to create lightweight sculptural forms that would be difficult to achieve using flat sheet alone.
Working with copper throughout the weekend, you’ll learn how to create a variety of corrugated forms before bringing them to life with both transparent and opaque enamels.
Suitable for jewellers with some previous making experience, this workshop is ideal for anyone looking to expand their creative repertoire. No previous enamelling experience is required.
Day One – Corrugation
Saturday is all about exploring the creative possibilities of corrugated metal.
With plenty of demonstrations from Jill, you’ll learn how different metals and thicknesses behave before experimenting with a variety of techniques using both simple hand tools and a corrugating roller.
You’ll discover how to:
- Create beautiful corrugated and pleated textures
- Add folds, smocking and sculptural forms
- Manipulate corrugated sheet using hand tools
- Explore press forming and rolling mill techniques
- Construct lightweight hollow bead forms
By the end of the day, you’ll have created a collection of textured copper components ready for enamelling.
Day Two – Enamelling
On Sunday you’ll have the opportunity to transform your corrugated forms with vibrant vitreous enamel.
You’ll explore how both transparent and opaque enamels interact with textured surfaces, discovering how colour, light and form work together to create unique jewellery.
Throughout the day you’ll experiment with layering colour, enhancing texture and developing your own creative approach to combining these two exciting techniques. You can also choose not to move on to enamelling and continue to explore the corrugation possibilities.Â
