Keum Boo Half Day Jewellery Making Workshop
Level: Previous workshop experience required.
About the course: Keum-Boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique which, literally translated, means ‘attached gold’. This technique enables a jewellery maker to permanently attach an ultra-fine layer of pure gold to the surface of solid silver. It is a simple, reliable and affordable way to incorporate the warmth of gold into your designs.
Suitable for students who already have some basic jewellery techniques such as sawing, filing and drilling metals.
This half-day workshop will begin with a demonstration and overview of Keum-Boo jewellery making. Students will then have time to practice the technique, concentrating on creating a range of samples to consolidate the techniques they have learned.
What to bring: We’ll provide all the things you will need to make your Keum Boo piece including tools, silver and gold. If you want to make a larger piece such as a ‘statement’ pendant this can often be accommodated however extra silver will be charged (at cost price). A sketch/notebook plus pen/pencil for notes and designs could come in handy for this workshop! Please familiarise yourself with our Covid Safe Procedures before arrival.
Please bring along glasses if you need them and wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment including closed-toe shoes. If you have long hair please wear it up and bring a cloth face mask to wear if required. If you are the type of person who prefers to arm yourself with some knowledge ahead of time then we have prepared a Pinterest board filled with Keum Boo information and inspiration just for you!
