Description
New Year Beginners Day – Learn to make silver jewellery.
Saturday 9 January 2027
Level: Suitable for all
–
About the course: Start the New Year by learning how to transform a sheet of silver into a unique piece of jewellery! This intensive one-day course will introduce you to the traditional techniques and tools used to make jewellery. Through demonstrations and structured guidance, the course aims to build confidence as you learn techniques such as sawing, soldering, annealing, filing, texturing, and shaping.
–
Participants will start with copper (which has similar working properties to silver) to practise techniques before moving on to silver for a final piece. This course is an ideal introduction if you are taking your first steps in jewellery making but also suitable for returning students who are looking to refresh their existing knowledge!
–
What to bring: We’ll provide everything you will need to start making jewellery; including tools, copper and a small amount of silver sheet or wire. Extra silver will be available to purchase if you wish to create something larger.
–
Please bring along glasses if you need them and wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment, including closed-toe shoes. If you have long hair, please wear it up and bring a cloth face mask to wear if required. If you are the type of person who prefers to arm yourself with some knowledge ahead of time, then we have prepared a Pinterest page filled with jewellery-making information and inspiration just for you!
–
Feel free to bring a notebook and pen/pencil to take notes and start drawing up designs!
This course does not include stone setting techniques but is a good building block for learning the techniques you will need to progress to the more advanced techniques like stone setting.
–
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. Please bring your own lidded cup for use in the studio. While we do not have a dedicated lunch area, you are welcome to eat at your desk, and we can also recommend nearby places to eat if you prefer.
