Liquid Enamel Bowls with Elizabeth Jane Campbell

Suitable for beginners

Join us for a two-day workshop exploring a more fluid and expressive approach to enamelling. Working on pre-formed copper bowls, you’ll use liquid enamel to build colour and surface through a painterly, intuitive process.

This technique offers a freer alternative to traditional powdered enamels, allowing for looser application, layering and experimentation with mark-making. Throughout the weekend, you’ll explore a range of approaches, including patterning, stencilling and more spontaneous surface techniques, developing a series of test pieces before applying your ideas to finished work.

You’ll work on pre-made bowl forms, focusing on applying and firing liquid enamel to create unique, expressive surfaces. By the end of the course, you will have completed one or two enamelled bowls and gained a solid understanding of this versatile technique.

Suitable for both beginners and those with previous enamelling experience, this workshop is ideal for anyone looking to experiment with colour and develop a more intuitive approach to enamel.

Day 1: Techniques & Exploration

Elizabeth will introduce liquid enamelling through demonstrations and examples. You’ll spend the day experimenting with different application methods on copper sheet, building confidence and exploring the possibilities of the material.

Day 2: Design & Make

You’ll review your samples before moving on to enamelling your pre-formed bowls, applying the techniques you’ve developed to create finished pieces.
