CSSJ Future Makers Programme

A unique professional development opportunity for emerging jewellers

The Central Scotland School of Jewellery is delighted to launch the CSSJ Future Makers Programme, offering three places each summer to talented jewellery students preparing to enter the final year of their degree.

The programme provides a unique opportunity to experience the day-to-day running of a specialist jewellery school while developing practical skills and professional insight beyond the university studio.

Over one week, Future Makers will work alongside the CSSJ team, gaining first-hand experience of teaching, workshop delivery, studio management and the realities of running a successful independent creative business.

As recognition of their contribution, each Future Maker will receive a complimentary place on one of our three-day Summer Schools, allowing them to develop specialist technical skills with one of our visiting tutors.

What you’ll experience

Depending on our schedule, Future Makers may have the opportunity to:

  • Observe and support the delivery of specialist jewellery workshops.
  • Assist with preparing materials, tools and the teaching studio.
  • Learn how courses are designed, organised and promoted.
  • Gain an understanding of customer care and the adult learning experience.
  • Develop an appreciation of health and safety within a professional workshop environment.
  • Explore self-employment, portfolio careers and the realities of running a creative business.
  • Learn alongside experienced tutors and the CSSJ team in a supportive professional environment.

The programme is designed as an educational experience, giving participants valuable insight into careers in jewellery education, workshop delivery and creative enterprise.

What you’ll receive

Each Future Maker will receive:

  • A one-week placement at the Central Scotland School of Jewellery.
  • A complimentary place on one of our three-day Summer Schools (subject to availability and suitability).
  • Mentoring and informal career guidance throughout the programme.
  • A written reference if desired

Who can be nominated?

The programme is open to students who:

  • Will be entering the final year of a UK jewellery or silversmithing degree.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, professionalism and a willingness to learn.
  • Have an interest in jewellery education, creative enterprise or developing a portfolio career.

Nominations

Places are offered primarily through nominations from university tutors and course leaders.

If you would like to nominate a student, please email hello@cssj.co.uk with:

  • The student’s name and degree programme.
  • A brief statement explaining why you believe they would benefit from the opportunity.
  • A link to their portfolio, website or Instagram account (where available).

Students who have not been nominated are also welcome to register their interest. We recognise that talent takes many forms, and we are happy to consider direct enquiries where places remain available.
