Description

Flush Setting Masterclass
Sun 23rd June

Level:

Intermediate. Students will be working on a very small scale so hand/eye coordination and patience are a must for this session. Previous experience working in silver and using a flex shaft or micro motor is preferable but not essential.

Join us for a Flush Setting Masterclass and add this sleek and contemporary stone setting technique to your silver jewellery-making repertoire.

Flush setting is the technique whereby a faceted stone is set into a piece of jewellery so that the top of the stone is level with the surface of the metal. This one-day workshop provides an exciting opportunity to grasp the principal and practical application of flush settings. In this class you will learn how to drill, burr and set round stones into flat and curved sheet metal.

You will practice in copper, setting different-sized cubic zirconia stones, and once confident move on to work in silver. With the guidance of tutor Simone, you will then flush set a small silver pendant with a cubic zirconia stone. You will also make your very own flush setting tool to keep so that you can continue developing your setting expertise in your studio using all the skills and confidence you have picked up throughout the day.

Techniques covered:

  • Choosing the correct stones for flush setting
  • Creating your flush setting tool and tool maintenance
  • How to correctly drill and burr a recess in metal to fit your stone
  • Pushing the metal around the stone to hold it in place permanently

What to bring:

  • We’ll provide all the things you will need for your Flush Setting Masterclass however you are welcome to bring your own cubic zirconia stones in 2 &3mm (we will be providing brilliant white)
