Jewellery from Found and Repurposed Materials with Aubin Stewart

Sat 9th May

Level: Beginners & Intermediates

Join us at Dunblane’s EcoFest 2026 for a playful, hands-on jewellery workshop that invites you to explore ideas of value, creativity, and sustainability through making. In this session, participants will design and create a compositional piece of jewellery using repurposed and found materials. Together, we’ll challenge traditional notions of what is considered precious by transforming discarded or everyday objects into wearable art.

You’ll learn and apply a range of metalworking and texturing techniques, including riveting, cold connections, and roll printing. Those with previous soldering experience are welcome to incorporate soldered elements into their designs.
A wide variety of materials will be provided, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own found or repurposed items to weave their personal story into their work.
This workshop is perfect for anyone who loves to experiment, reconnect with material play, and discover beauty in the unexpected.

We’ll begin the day with an overview of all the different techniques we’ll cover and the different ways they might feature in your finished jewellery pieces. After some short demonstrations, you’ll have the opportunity to try the techniques yourself and practice under the supervision of your expert tutor. CSSJ will provide you with a variety of materials, in addition to your own, that you can use to develop your new skills.

This is a relaxed class that is suitable for all levels.

What to bring:

  • Feel free to bring along your own collection of found or reclaimed items, and Aubin will advise if they are suitable for transforming into jewellery
  • A sketch/notebook plus a pen/pencil for sketching would come in handy for this workshop
  • Please bring along glasses if you need them
  • Wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment, including closed-toe shoes. Why not order yourself a CSSJ apron to make you feel right at home in your workshop?
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. Please bring your own lidded cup for use in the studio. While we do not have a dedicated lunch area, you are welcome to eat at your desk, and we can also recommend nearby places to eat if you prefer.
