Aluminium Jewellery Summer School

Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August 2024

Level: Beginners and Intermediates

Learn how to create a variety of stunning effects for contemporary jewellery using anodised aluminium, a fascinating and diverse material that is lightweight and will keep its bright colours over time.

This lively three-day Aluminium Jewellery Summer School will introduce you to working with pre-anodised aluminium. You will focus on how to achieve a variety of decorative colouring effects to make lots of samples and you will be encouraged to experiment and explore the material’s capabilities before moving on to finished pieces. Working with a broad spectrum of colours, you will be introduced to a host of colouring techniques through demonstrations and discussions, including dip-dyeing, direct application, printmaking techniques and the clever use of resists.

Projects can be tailored by the tutor to suit your jewellery-making experience. During the weekend, you will also cover an introduction to cold connections, alongside basic jewellery-making techniques such as cutting, shaping, drilling, and disc cutting.

You can expect to leave the course with a good set of samples, a small collection of completed jewellery and the confidence to continue exploring the subject at home. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience who wish to experiment further with this vibrant and versatile material.

Your Tutor: Trisha Smith, of White Loch Jewellery is a Dunblane-based jewellery maker who teaches on both our weekly class programme and weekend workshops. Her contemporary colourful jewellery is available to buy in our gallery upstairs from the jewellery studio in Craft Central.
