Join professional Pearl Stringer and educator with over 16 years of experience in the trade, Anja Moehler, for a focused one-day masterclass exploring the traditional craft of pearl stringing.

This practical workshop introduces the professional technique of hand-knotting pearls, placing a knot between each pearl to ensure flexibility, durability and an elegant drape. Working step by step, you will learn how to begin and finish a strand correctly, control tension, and achieve a consistent, refined result. Students will cover basic gemmological knowledge of pearls, troubleshooting, suggestions for stringing materials, care for pearls, and the use of pearls in jewellery.

Throughout the day, Anja will demonstrate a range of stringing approaches and explain how structural decisions influence movement, longevity and wear. You will also gain insight into common repair issues, restringing services, and how pearl stringing can be incorporated into a contemporary jewellery practice — whether for new design work or as part of a professional repair and remodelling offer.

Pearl stringing is a highly transferable skill. It requires care and precision rather than significant investment in equipment, making it an accessible addition to both emerging and established makers’ toolkits. It also supports a more sustainable approach to jewellery by extending the life of existing pieces through considered repair.
