Join contemporary jeweller Filipa Oliveira for an immersive two-day workshop exploring the refined art of silver filigree. Designed for confident intermediate makers, this course focuses on precision soldering, specialist wire preparation and controlled construction techniques.

Experience the artistry of silver filigree jewellery as you work with finely twisted silver threads to create detailed, expressive patterns. This jewellery-making course offers step-by-step demonstrations, supporting handouts, and guided studio practice, allowing you to develop precision and ease with this historic technique.

Your tutor: Filipa Oliveira

Filipa Oliveira is a contemporary jeweller renowned for her innovative use of traditional filigree metalwork. Her approach blends heritage craftsmanship with modern design, helping you understand how this centuries-old technique can be used to create refined, characterful pieces. Through her guidance, you will explore how traditional skills can enrich today’s jewellery practice.

Outcomes

Over the weekend, you will:

  • Prepare and form traditional filigree wire

  • Create your own filigree tools to take home

  • Learn three core filigree construction methods

  • Complete a finished silver filigree piece

Working in a deliberately small group, you’ll benefit from focused tuition, detailed demonstrations and extended bench time to refine your accuracy and control. This workshop is ideal for jewellers ready to move from competent to confident in delicate metalwork.

Is this workshop suitable for you?

This course is designed for confident intermediate jewellers.

You will benefit most if you:

  • Can solder independently without supervision

  • Enjoy detailed, precise bench work

  • You are ready to refine accuracy and finishing standards

If you are unsure whether this level is right for you, we are happy to offer a brief conversation to discuss your experience before booking.

What to bring:

  • We’ll provide everything you will need for your Filagree Weekend Workshop, including silver and specialist tools.
  • A sketch/notebook plus a pen/pencil for notes could come in handy for this workshop
  • Please bring along glasses and/or a visor if you need them
  • Wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment, including closed-toe shoes. Why not order a CSSJ apron to make you feel right at home in your workshop?
