SUBSIDISED PLACES

By offering subsidised places on our  workshops we aim  to remove cost as a barrier to participation, enabling access for all to creative learning opportunities. We hope to encourage engagement locally and welcome participation from those who otherwise might not be able to participate. Subsidies are supported by ongoing fundraising activity including grants from private trusts and public funding bodies, and from community giving through our ‘Pay It Forward’ scheme.

    PAY IT FORWARD

Reduced cost spaces are available on selected weekend workshops to students who would struggle to cover the cost of their course. Subsidies are normally offered at 50% of the course cost; the remaining balance must be paid upon booking to secure your place on the course. In some circumstances, we might be able to reduce the cost further. Please email us if you require a bigger cost reduction in order to come to a workshop. If you would like more information,  please contact us at hello@cssj.co.uk.

Our concessionary places are supported by the generous donations of our students through our Pay It Forward’ scheme. We invite those who feel able to contribute a little extra on top of their course cost to help support the attendance of people who might not otherwise be able to afford a place on one of our workshops. We top up the fund with money generated by recycling precious metal waste from the studio and our Re-use Hub sales.

    HOW TO APPLY:

Please email us with answers to the questions below, explaining why you qualify for a reduced-cost workshop. A brief explanation is fine; we don’t need any personal details, and any information you provide will be held in strictest confidence.

    • Which of our courses would you like to attend?
    • How would a subsidised place at a workshop remove financial barriers that exclude you from a creative education or experience?
    • How would this opportunity advance your creative practice, or bring other benefits to your development or wellbeing?

Successful applicants will be sent a discount code that can be used to book their course online and should be applied on the checkout page.

    DDT SMALL COMMUNITY GRANTS FUND

The Dunblane Development Trust Small Community Grants Fund has kindly awarded funds to CSSJ, allowing us to offer five Dunblane residents half price on our upcoming term of weekly classes (April-June). By offering subsidised places on our workshops, we aim to remove cost as a barrier to participation, enabling access for all to creative learning opportunities. We hope to encourage engagement locally and welcome participation from those who otherwise might not be able to participate.

    – Non-attendance at the allocated workshop forfeits the subsidised place, no alternative will be offered

    SETTING INCLUSIVITY II

We are delighted to announce that our 2026 Subsidy Programme will be delivered, once again, in partnership with the  Goldsmiths’ Centre . Setting Inclusivity II aims to tackle financial barriers so that more people can learn the traditional skill of jewellery making. The initiative addresses challenges like high costs, social exclusion and lack of access, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the benefits of jewellery and creativity.

Who can apply for a subsidy?

Subsidised places are intended for those who would not otherwise be able to afford, or would struggle to afford to attend a weekly course, for example:

    • people in receipt of universal credit
    • young people (16-25)
    • people in low income jobs, between jobs, or perhaps taking a break from formal employment due to health reasons
    • professional or non professional artists looking to upskill
    • this list is not exhaustive and we would like to encourage people to get in touch to discuss eligibility

Subsidies are offered at 50% of our Weekly Classes course cost, the remaining balance must be paid upon booking to secure your place on the course.

There are no restrictions on geographic location, you are welcome to apply from outside of our locality. The subsidy is only for our weekly classes, not for weekend workshops. See our weekly sessions here.
