Introduction to Enamel Jewellery Making: Weekend Workshop

Level: Suitable for all

About the course:

A two-day, weekend course learning the magic of enamel jewellery making, this class is suitable for beginners. Students will learn how to prepare metal before enamelling, apply colour and textures, and then use the kiln to fire their pieces. We will also explore how to apply the findings to an enamelled design, creating final pieces that can be displayed or worn. The workshop will cover a range of decorative techniques such as sifting, Sgraffito, stencilling, stamping, graphite with enamel, as well as other effective, simple techniques.

Your Tutor: Graduating in 2013 from Edinburgh College of Art, tutor Elizabeth Jane Campbell is an award-winning enamel jeweller based in Edinburgh.

Day 1: Skills Tutorials – Elizabeth will introduce some enamelling techniques through live demonstrations and presentations of a rich variety of samples.

Day 2: Design & Make  – Students will have the chance to design and make finished pieces using the techniques that they have learned with Elizabeth, and of course, she will be on hand to offer advice and expertise.

What to bring:  We’ll provide all the things you will need to start making amazing enamelled jewellery, including tools and copper. However, if you want to make a particularly large piece or additional pieces, extra materials can be purchased directly from the School.

Please bring along glasses if you need them and wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment, including closed-toe shoes. If you have long hair, please wear it up. If you are the type of person who prefers to arm yourself with some knowledge ahead of time, then we have prepared a Pinterest board filled with enamel information and inspiration just for you!

Lunch is not provided, and due to the health & safety issues regarding sifting dry enamel powders, it will not be possible for you to eat your lunch in the studio during this workshop. However, we have information on our notice board about places to go on the High Street for tasty treats!

**Please note: classes may be cancelled due to events outside of our control or lack of attendees. If this occurs, you will be notified before the class is due to commence and offered a choice between a replacement class or a full refund of your fees**
