Level: Beginner
Our 3-day Beginner’s Summer School in silver jewellery making is a friendly and inspiring introduction to traditional silversmithing techniques. Designed specifically for absolute beginners, this immersive jewellery making course combines expert tuition with plenty of hands-on practice, making it ideal for anyone looking to learn how to make silver jewellery from scratch.
You’ll begin by working in copper, a perfect material for building confidence as you learn core jewellery making skills. These include sawing, drilling, texturing, forming and soldering, all essential techniques used in professional jewellery making. Each process is clearly demonstrated by our experienced tutors, followed by supported practice so you can learn at a comfortable pace. Throughout the course, you’ll use a wide range of professional jewellery tools and equipment, from precision hand tools to larger workshop machinery, with an emphasis on safe and creative working.
Once you’ve developed these foundational skills, you’ll progress to designing and making your own jewellery in Sterling silver. You’ll be guided through the design process, with access to our extensive library of jewellery books and sample pieces for inspiration. Tutors are always on hand to help you refine your ideas into designs that are both creative and achievable. Depending on the complexity of your work, you may even complete a small collection of handmade silver jewellery during the course.
The summer school takes place over three consecutive days in our bright, spacious jewellery studio overlooking the River Allan. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with finished silver jewellery, practical silversmithing skills, and the confidence to continue your jewellery making journey. Whether you’re interested in setting up a home jewellery studio, progressing to more advanced jewellery workshops, or simply enjoying a creative short course in a beautiful location, this beginner jewellery making course offers a rewarding and memorable experience.
