To highlight the importance of the support offered to our students by our collaborative subsidy scheme in conjunction with the Goldsmiths’ Centre, we’ve asked some of the students supported through the scheme to share their experience, and tell us about how Setting Inclusivity has helped them in their creative practise.
Eloise came to us at a crossroads in her life, when she was trying to make difficult decisions about her future and education. Choosing a degree pathway is a daunting prospect, and participation in a block of weekly classes has allowed her natural talent and love for jewellery to shine through. We look forwards to seeing what this talented student produces on her further studies, and we are delighted to have been able to support the beginning of her journey.
Having classes at CSSJ has been brilliant. This year I was applying for art school and the skills learned from the tutors allowed me to create pieces which were successful in making my portfolio stand out. Learning about the jewellery design process and countless techniques to apply to jewellery work allowed me to fully appreciate the craft and encourage me to choose to study it further as a degree.
Subsidies allow students to access skills which would otherwise be limited, encouraging the craft to be a continuing interest in young people such as myself.
