This course is an introduction to the creative use of Silver Clay. Suitable for all levels it is designed to enable not only complete beginners to produce jewellery but also demonstrate the interesting properties of Silver Clay to those with more advanced knowledge of jewellery making.
Silver Clay was developed by Mitsubishi Materials. Using fine silver dust an organic binder and water, they produced a clay like material which is very easy to manipulate and is perfect for producing organic textures and form. The water evaporates during drying, the organic binder burns away during firing to leave pure silver.
During this course we will explore the unique properties of Silver Clay and learn skills such as:
Texturing and modelling wet silver clay.
Carving dry silver clay.
Bead and hollow form making.
Fusing wire into silver clay to make jewellery without soldering.
Embedding stones and glass.
Simple techniques to form wire and sheet.
Simple finishing techniques.
