Discover the art of fold forming in this fun and energetic 2 day workshop, suitable for beginners or experienced students looking to learn a new technique. Students will be introduced to the basic techniques used to transform flat sheet metal into a variety of interesting 3-dimensional forms using simple tools.
Samples will be made using the basic techniques used to fold and hammer or roll metal before students begin working towards a finished piece. This could take the form of earrings, a pendant, bracelet or a more sculptural object for the home like a spoon or candlestick.
Techniques covered will include
-Line folding
– Hammering technique
– Fold forming with the rolling mill
– Leaf Forms
– Wavy Spines
Copper will be provided for the course with silver available to buy if you would like to work in a more precious metal for your finished piece. Please bring along glasses if you need them and wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment including closed toe shoes. If you have long hair please wear it up.
9:30-4:30 with a break for lunch. Lunch is not provided but you can bring a lunch to eat in the studio or we can advise you of nearby places to buy a lunch. Refreshments provided.
