Introduction to Cast Settings
Level: Intermediate. You should be confident with soldering silver jewellery. Experience of working with a pendant motor would be useful.
Topics and techniques covered:

how to incorporate a setting into a piece (a ring would be ideal for this workshop)

how to select the correct size of setting for your stone

how to seat the stone correctly using both hand tool and pendant motors

how to professionally finish and polish your setting
Your tutor:
Your course will be led by jeweller Sophia Hargreaves who has a wealth of experience in both handmaking and manufacturing. She is the force behind industry disruptor, Greens Stone Settings and is passionate about sharing her industry knowledge and making stone setting accessible for all.
What to expect/bring:
- We’ll provide all the supplies you will need for your Cast Setting Introduction weekend. We will be working in brass but there will be the opportunity to purchase Sterling setting blanks if you prefer to work in silver. Please let us know in advance if you would like to do this.
- A sketch/notebook plus a pen/pencil for notes could come in handy for this workshop
- Please bring along glasses and/or an optivisor if needed
- Wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment including closed-toe shoes. Why not order a CSSJ apron to make you feel right at home in your workshop?
- Tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided
