Jewellery Beginners Sunday Workshop
About the course: Transforming a sheet of silver into a piece of jewellery can be a fulfilling and exciting creative process. This fun one-day course will introduce you to the traditional techniques and tools used to make jewellery. The aim of this course, using demonstrations and structured guidance is to instil confidence as you learn techniques such as sawing, soldering, annealing, filing, texturing and shaping.
Participants will start by using copper (which has similar working properties to silver) to practice techniques before progressing on to creating a silver ring. This course is an ideal introduction if you are taking your first steps in jewellery making.
This course does not include stone setting techniques but is a good building block for learning the techniques you will need to progress to more advanced techniques.
Lois Jane Wiseman is an award winning Glasgow based jewellery designer hailing from the North East of Scotland. She completed a Ba(Hons) in Jewellery Design and Related Products at the world renowned School of Jewellery in Birmingham.
Lois draws inspiration from the geometry found in everyday life. In her sketchbooks, she uses collage and mark making, which she then translates into her jewellery. Bold colours fuel Lois’ design process, inspiring her to create lightweight statement pieces using powdered or liquid enamels with graphite illustrations on steel.
